Job Description This position will Lead the Professional & Advocacy Relations (PAR) strategy and execution activities for obesity in the Medical Affairs department. This position provides direction in the development of strategic partnerships, collaborations and alliances with key third party professional and advocacy associations for the benefit of Novo Nordisk, its brands and association constituents. The Director works to secure Novo Nordisk access and voice in important third-party non-profit groups that influence the healthcare agenda for the future, advocating for improved patient care aligned with the Novo Nordisk Way.

This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships as the face of Novo Nordisk to senior officials in these target organizations. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining and developing partnerships involving third-party groups meet all ethics and compliance guidelines, and recommending, as appropriate, changes in Novo Nordisk policies to ensure same. In doing so, this individual ensures Novo Nordisk is seen as an ethical, credible, and respected pharmaceutical industry leader.

This is a highly strategic position for Novo Nordisk’s business, medical affairs and the brands. The person in this position must be capable of exerting broad authority and gaining respect internally, as well as externally among those third-party groups most influential to the company’s business. This position has a very broad scope, is very time intensive due to the requirements associated with building and maintaining external partnerships, and requires a high degree of independence, which is sustained by the training, experience and judgment of the incumbent.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports directly to the Senior Director, Professional Association Relations Strategy and has broad responsibility for managing multiple internal relationships within and across Novo Nordisk Inc. as well as with Global HQ.

Partners with many internal stakeholders and external customers, including the NNI Executive Team, US Giving & Social Impact, Medical Education, Public Affairs, Marketing (Global and NNI), External Relations, Medical Affairs, Legal, and others, as well as association leadership and external vendors.

This role is responsible for leading the cross-functional Obesity PAR team (PART) to define and execute the defined deliverables of the Obesity PAR strategy. As business needs dictate, this function is expected to grow to meet industry best practice standards and is expected to build a business case and lobby for additional staff. Specifically, the function partners with various colleagues in NNI and NNAS, particularly CVPs, VPs and senior directors in establishing third-party strategies, and Novo Nordisk’s positions on agenda-setting patient, HCP, and academic partnerships. Serves as primary point of contact for senior association leadership, and is the representative on many external industry/associations boards providing direction and input into their policies and programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Leads the development and execution of the Obesity PAR strategy with key professional associations, organizations and societies, including vendor selection, management and capability building, in close collaboration with all relevant internal stakeholders
•Leads the Obesity Professional Association Relations Team (PART) to ensure organizational alignment of goals and activities, including support priorities (based on annualized spend).
•Serves as the primary liaison between NN and aligned professional associations, focused on developing industry-leading relationships, as well as partnering on key projects and initiatives.
•Develops and executes Obesity PAR Annual Communication plan to ensure organization is fully aware Obesity PAR strategy, including key activities, milestones.
•Provides direction to NNI association leads to ensure effective execution of Obesity PAR strategy across all primary and secondary associations.
•Provides regular strategic updates to the Executive Team (ET), including fostering meetings between ET and association leadership.
•Stays abreast of regulatory requirements and guidelines, current trends and medical practices in the field of obesity, including reports and intelligence on new technologies or treatment advances so as to glean relevant information and provide insight about potential impact to Novo Nordisk’s products, services and patients
•Works with US Giving & Social Impact to implement the sponsor association programs aligned with overall corporate strategies
•Works with Medical Education to implement the medical education strategy and continually assess its impact, including review of grants for strategic alignment and fit
•Provides strategic input in corporate, brand and medical strategies regarding national and local associations.
•Responsible for managing and tracking Obesity PAR budget across projects
•Generates understanding and commitment throughout the organization regarding business strategies in relation to association activities through communication and collaboration with other departments
•Leads development of process to track and evaluate clinical and business value of third party alliances
•Provides leadership insight to ensure the effective alignment of professional relations/advocacy initiatives across organizational lines, coordinating with key functions.
•Represents Novo Nordisk at speaking engagements with key professional and patient groups and through participation on health care panels, boards and committees, and prepares other company executives to do so as well.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

•MD or other relevant doctoral trained professional with at least 7 years relevant pharmaceutical / association experience. –OR– Non-doctoral trained professional with at least 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical / association experience.
•Strong strategic mindset, understanding of market needs and resource allocation
•Ability to appropriately influence at all levels of the organization, from the Executive Team (ET) to Association Leadership and all levels in between
•Experience in the field of diabetes or endocrinology and metabolism preferred
•Very strong communication, presentation and relationship building capacity
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant technology platforms.

•Approximately 50% overnight travel
