Job Description PURPOSE:
Primary role includes providing technical support and peer leadership to the biopharmaceutical discovery laboratory. Incumbents have responsibility for research experiments and data integrity, as assigned by management. Incumbents must be able to design and implement an experiment based on an overall description of the intended outcome. Incumbents will also serve as a mentor to Research Assistants and Associates within and outside of their project teams.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Department Head. Internal relationships include on site research scientists.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to work flexible hours.
Accumulate knowledge and skills to support development and management of research protocols in support of multiple drug discovery efforts.
Achieve business goals, share learnings, knowledge and skills and promote cross-functional teamwork.
Complete assignments requiring high level knowledge of techniques and practices related to the research area.
Ensure data integrity of NNRC. Conduct data collection, interpretation and ensure proper documentation of experimental data. Maintain laboratory notebooks.
Identify the correct methods and perform manual calculations for sample preparation.
In collaboration with the research scientist, design and perform laboratory research experiments.
Order laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain the laboratories and perform other job related duties as assigned.
Perform in vitro research to support multiple drug discovery efforts.
Provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of the research projects.
Use knowledge and experiences to interpret and properly document experimental data.
Work with Department Heads and Scientists to insure better practice sharing and implementation within the labs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 5% overnight travel

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
A BS with 4 years or MS with 2 years of relevant experience from basic research or the pharmaceutical industry required.
Advanced experience working with human blood and tissues and proper handling of biomaterials required. Experience working with patient and/or clinical trial samples strongly preferred.
Experience with technical methods utilized in autoimmunity and inflammation research required, including: whole blood assays, cell-based functional assays, blood cell isolation, multiparameter flow cytometry, Luminex and ELISA
A high degree of computer proficiency and the ability/interest to learn new software programs required. Prior experience with biobanks and patient sample tracking strongly preferred.
Excellent skills in collecting data and accurately maintaining laboratory notebooks required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to develop and follow SOPs required.
Flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. To accommodate patient tissue sample availability, flexibility in working hours required.
