Steno Diabetes Center is a clinical center of excellence integrated in the Danish National Health Service that conducts international-leading diabetes research. A particular emphasis is currently devoted to the studies of the metabolic, genetic and epigenetic factors underlying diabetic complications. We are looking for an enthusiastic junior scientist/analyst to work on large-scale genetic analyses of diabetic complications, particularly diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy. The position is open for a two-year postdoctoral training with a possible extension to three years. The position will be available from January 1, 2014.

Job description

The main responsibility of the postdoc position will be to apply and further develop

bioinformatical tools to analyze and integrate next generation sequencing data, genome-wide genotype data derived from DNA chips covering both common ("GWAS array) and rare ("Exome-chip") genetic variations in order to identify variants associated with protection and/or risk of progression to diabetic complications.

The applicant will be part of an international research network dedicated to the genetics of diabetic complications and will have the opportunity to receive training and interact with researchers at Lund University, Helsinki University and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, in the specific area of statistical methodology.

Education

The vacant position is at postdoctoral level and the applicant should obtain PhD by the starting date.

Skills

The applicant should demonstrate strong abilities to work independently while capable of liaising on a regular basis with researchers in other disciplines, accurately judge priorities and have excellent organisational and communication skills, should pay attention to the details.

Previous experiences

The applicant should have relevant experience in bioinformatics or statistical genetics, a sound understanding of scripting using SAS and R or other programming language, experience in working with very large datasets.
