Applications are invited for an Industrial PhD Scholarship in the field of health promotion with a focus on physical activity in schools at Steno Health Promotion Center, Steno Diabetes Center A/S. The PhD candidate will be enrolled for a 3 year period starting January 2014.
Steno Health Promotion Center (SHPC) (www.steno.dk), Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (NEXS), University of Copenhagen (UCPH) and Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management (IGN), UCPH are launching the TEACHOUT project funded by the TrygFonden in 2014.
We are seeking an Industrial PhD student who, through accelerometer research and surveys, can generate an understanding of the potential impact of regular education outside the classroom (known as udeskole in Danish) on physical activity among pupils in primary school.
TEACHOUT: research in physical activity, learning and motivation
The TrygFonden TEACHOUT project focuses on education outside the classroom in the context of the Danish school system. The main questions are: Do the alternative teaching practices of udeskole increase and improve children’s physical activity, academic learning, social interaction, and attitudes to school? And if so, how?
Your central task will be to work in a cross-disciplinary research group with other PhD students, senior researchers, supervisors, and project managers within the TEACHOUT project. Each of the three PhD students will focus on different aspects of udeskole and will contribute in particular to the data collection, analysis and interpretation, but each student will also support the whole project, e.g. with regard to organisation, testing, cross-disciplinary research, and cooperation.
Read more about the research project at http://teachout.ku.dk/. A project group with manager, researchers and supervisors is already established. A detailed project description already exists and a short version can be sent on request.
