Job Description PURPOSE:
This position is accountable for leading the development and implementation of market shaping business plans. Incumbent takes a lead role on extended brand teams (when appropriate) and interacts extensively with other functions within Novo Nordisk.

Owns all the brands within the respective customer segment. Acts as a leader and point person for tactical execution within designated segments - drives the brand materials. Proactively communicates with Brand Leads to sign off on tactics and alignment. Makes decisions for designated customer segment with key input from each brand. Serves as point person for non DM functional areas e.g. Trade, MMSO etc. Communicates brand strategy, positioning, etc. Provides key input into in the brand planning process.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Senior Director, Market Shaping, Diabetes Marketing. Key internal relationships include medical affairs, sales, marketing, professional relations, legal and regulatory. Other internal relationships include Managed Care, Trade, Government Affairs and international marketing. External relationships include relations with leading key opinion leaders, clinicians and professional services vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Team Responsibility
• Serve as expert market shaping counsel within the diabetes portfolio marketing department.
• Serve as coach & mentor to junior managers in Market Shaping team to advise on Portfolio Market Shaping strategy and tactics.
• Take on increased leadership responsibilities for projects with higher accountability for execution, ROI and implementation.
• Assume broader role in working cross functionally across the organization, showing collaboration and strategic thinking with other departments.

Market Shaping
• Lead the development and execution of tactical and strategic plans for portfolio market shaping.
• Work effectively with internal colleagues (i.e. sales, marketing, medical affairs, etc.) to lead the development of effective plans.
• Provides strategic guidance to extended market shaping team on all areas of market shaping function – including 1) advocacy development 2) promotional medical education 3) medical communications etc.
• Responsible for strategic development of annual market shaping plans, aligned with commercial brand strategies across the diabetes portfolio.
• Responsible for execution of key market shaping tactics across the portfolio of brands, taking into account product lifecycle (new indication, formulation changes, etc.).
• Accountable to manage the brand/portfolio budget process for designated area - makes sound decisions to optimize spend and ensure that resources are appropriately allocated and quality of services are maintained while costs remain on track and according to budget. Monitor agency expenses by looking for opportunities to maximize value while minimizing agency costs. Follow internal and external procedures in managing contracts. Regularly tracks and reconciles expenses to ensure budget is on track.
• Develop strong relationships with leading key opinion leaders/thought leaders to integrate into market shaping activities.
• Proactively identifies strategies, activities and future direction for promotional medical education based on evaluation of competitive landscape. Makes appropriate recommendations to Senior Director and Senior Management team.
• Forges strong relationships with International Marketing to maximize portfolio market shaping activities.
• Ensure ongoing monitoring of all portfolio market shaping activities to ensure they are meeting established criteria and if not meeting criteria proactively implement corrective measures.
• Develop ROI plans for appropriate promotional medical education activities; analyze results and make recommendations on outcomes to director and marketing management team.
• Manages the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way of Management.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. MBA or graduate degree preferred.
• 7-10+ years progressive brand management/marketing or medical education experience within the pharmaceutical industry or equivalent medical education agency required.
• Knowledge of how to develop and implement market shaping /medical education programs required.
• A clinical understanding of diabetes management is preferred.
• Able to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines at one time.
• Outstanding planning and organizational skills with exceptionally high attention to detail.
• Ability to manage and track budgets effectively across numerous projects.
