Job Description PURPOSE:
Provide legal counsel to global healthcare company on employment law matters.
RELATIONSHIPS:
• Responsible for providing day-to-day labor and employment law counseling and advice to entire U.S. organization.
• Reports to Senior Corporate Counsel.
• Acts as counsel for a particular customer group(s) and interacts with headquarters and other affiliates as required.
• May interact with government agencies, law firms, trade organizations and other external agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provides employment law advice and counseling to customer group(s), with minimal oversight and guidance from managing attorney.
• Proactively prevents or minimizes legal risk to the Company, and helps drive legal strategy to align and achieve business strategic goals
• Represents the Company in labor and employment matters filed with state and federal agencies
• Manages employment-related litigation
• Retains, manages, and assists outside counsel for litigation or other matters as needed.
• Reviews Company policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws
• Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company, and assists with development of policies and training as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by senior management.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• A J.D. with 6-8 years relevant industry or law firm experience. In-house experience preferred, but not required
• A State Bar admission required
• Experience within the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry preferred, but not required
• Strong problem-solving and decision making skills with demonstrated ability to think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems
• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills – able to effectively collaborate and communicate with stakeholders throughout the company
• Manage workload effectively, set priorities and deliver results on agreed upon timelines
