366 million people worldwide could benefit from you discovering even better medications to treat diabetes. If you find challenges like this exiting and inspiring, you could be our new colleague in Diabetes Protein Engineering.

About the department
The job is within the area of Protein & Peptide Chemistry and is located in Måløv, north-west of Copenhagen. We are more than 20 scientists committed to the discovery of new pharmaceutical peptides and proteins. We are responsible for engineering of peptides and proteins in order to improve the properties of proteins and peptides of therapeutic interest within diabetes care. The department has developed expertise at the interface of organic synthesis and protein chemistry that can improve efficacy, kinetics, stability and formulation properties of therapeutic peptides and proteins. The aim is to discover novel clinical candidates to be progressed further. Our projects embrace not only innovative products for injection, but also ground-breaking oral administration of insulin and GLP-1 analogues. Ultimately, your work will lead to improvement of the quality of life for millions of people with diabetes around the world.

The job
Your job will be in close collaboration with your project team to prepare derivatised proteins and peptides, by semisynthesis using recombinant proteins and/or by solid phase peptide synthesis. Organic synthesis of various intermediates will be a key job content of high importance for the success to solve challenging new tasks in the department. In addition, purification (preparative HPLC & AIEC) and analysis of the target derivatised peptide or protein will be part of your job. Your main focus will be to optimise biophysical, pharmacokinetic and dynamic properties of various proteins and peptides by appropriate protein engineering in collaboration with an interdisciplinary project group. In the position, you will use your thorough knowledge of organic chemistry, protein understanding and general scientific insight to obtain novel biological entities with optimal properties for treatment of diabetes and obesity.

Qualifications
You have a strong scientific background and hold a PhD in organic chemistry. If you also have experience with either protein chemistry or solid phase peptide synthesis it would be an advantage. In addition, you have a good knowledge of scientific fields related to drug discovery and development. Experience with preparative purification methods is also required as well as knowledge of analysis and characterisation of proteins and peptides (e.g. HPLC, HPLC-MS and NMR). You are also very interested in expanding your own competences towards protein and peptide technologies such as protein/peptide analysis, characterisation and handling as this is also essential for the job. In addition to your scientific profile you are an open minded and ambitious person with a sound humour and good collaboration skills.

At Novo Nordisk we use our skills, dedication and ambitions to help people with diabetes and change their lives. By working with us you will have the opportunity to do the same in a global business environment.
